Girona has become a mecca for cyclists, attracting enthusiasts from around the world. It's easy to see why so many pros choose to live and train here: the region boasts a diverse range of cycling routes with thin traffic and courteous drivers. And Girona is also a wonderful proud little Catalan city with a rich history and vibrant culture.

5. Rocacorba

The Rocacorba climb is starting to take legendary status among cyclists. The KOM on Strava is impressive, with pros testing their shape in anticipation of grand tours. For a training climb, this is indeed a perfect climb for the pros, with a road that leads nowhere there's little, if any, traffic. Other than that, it's not a memorable climb, but it is one to tick off from your climbing bucket list.

4. Els Àngels

This loop is one of the classics, and arguably one that almost all cyclists have done when they visit Girona. It's an extremely enjoyable ride that takes you through the beautiful countryside, with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. It's the perfect starter for those who are new to the area, before tackling the more challenging routes.

3. The Coast Loop

That other classic ride that almost all cyclists have done when they visit Girona. The route takes you along the stunning Costa Brava, with its rugged coastline and crystal-clear waters. It's a relatively easy ride, with one staggeringly beautiful climb halfway through. Make sure to ride it during the week, as the roads can get busy on weekends.

2. Mare de Déu del Mont

It doesn't get more spectactular than this when you've conquered the tough climb to the top of the Mare de Déu del Mont. The highly irregular climb with its steep sections and false flats is a real challenge, but the views from the top are simply breathtaking.

1. Sant Marti Sacalm

Sant Marti Sacalm is my personal favorite climb in the Girona area. There's no traffic, the road is in perfect condition, and the views at the top are stunning. The climb is challenging, but not too difficult, making it a great option to include in a long day in the saddle.
